PDM is a business with family values and respect for people, at its very core. Our history began 90 years ago, when Philip’s grandfather, who came from a long line of market gardeners, began renting a one-acre allotment in Great Chatwell before expanding to his first farm in 1933.
“PDM is not just one person, we’re lucky enough to have an incredibly passionate, hard-working team who are dedicated to bringing the very best to our customers. We have exceptional people working across all levels of the business, from the field, to the factory to the office – there are too many to mention!”
Philip Maddocks – Founder & CEO
Philip’s expertise in farming and passion for produce is echoed by our talented management team, who keep our values and commitment to excellence running throughout the business.
On the farming and procurement side is managing director Dermot Tobin, who is in charge of all farming operations both here in the UK and working with our trusted partners in Europe. Dermot manages all elements of our growing process from seed and agronomy to harvesting, to ensure we get the best leaves all-year round.
“I started at PDM in 1999, working on the lettuce harvesting rigs and I’ve seen the business grow to where it has today. It has been wonderful to be a part of that journey and grow my own professional life with it. The most inspiring part of PDM is its people – we are a family!”
– Alma Grudzinskaite – Health and Safety Manager
We’re always on the lookout for enthusiastic team members to join our growing family.
We offer a range of roles across the business including:
Our aim is to connect all staff and enable them to form strong friendships with colleagues that span throughout their time at PDM and beyond. We regularly organise a range of social events and activities for all of the team.
In the summer, we host the legendary PDM barbeque, where the management team put on their aprons and cook up a feast while everyone else parties! A happy work force, is a successful one.
We’ve successfully created a work environment that our staff are proud to be a part of, with around 60 percent of our seasonal staff returning to PDM year on year. We’re located in the heart of England and are close to excellent road and rail links. This puts us just an hour or so away from some of England’s most vibrant and diverse cities such as Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham.
We take our responsibilities as employers of a seasonal workforce drawn from all over Continental and Eastern Europe, as well as the UK, extremely seriously, and we fully respect the rights and dignity of all our people.
